Southport is as diverse as its people. You have huge mansions and lovely traditional wooden houses, as its one of the Gold Coast's oldest suburbs. You will also find high rise apartments and acreage plots. Lots of business goes on in Southport. It is know as the Gold Coasts Business District with small and large business and head offices.

The Broadwater Parklands is great for families with children with its lovely sheltered waterside and playground with bouncy pillow and waterpark.
Two of the most prestigious private school on the coast are at home in Southport. The Southport Boys day and boarding school, affectionally know to locales as TSS, sits along side the river with lovely grounds. TSS has its own sailing and rowing clubs.
And St Hilda's Girls day and Boarding School that is steeped in history. It was founded in 1912 and has a beautiful Chapel that opened in 1962.
Other High Schools are Southport High School and Keebra Park State High School.
Primary Schools include Southport, The Southport Special School, Musgrave and Guardian Angels Catholic School.
Southport also boast s many other education facilities such as The Gold Coast Institute of Tafe, and Griffith University Gold Coast Campus and smaller language schools.
There are over 200 medical facilities and 2 large private and state hospitals. Griffith University even has its own Medical School!
Australia Fair Shopping Centre has a verity of well know shops. Event Cinemas, restaurants, cafes, clothing boutiques and lots of family owned specialty shops. Ferry Road Markets, otherwise knows as Brickworks is a gourmet delight with other shops such as Freedom and TKMAXX.
For supermarket shopping head to Southport Park opposite TSS.
And Southport also has its own Gold Course.
Driving around Southport can be a bit tricky for visitors due to the tram system and odd angled roads, but its well worth a visit.
