Anxiety while driving.

DRIVEable Driving School, located on the Gold Coast in Queensland, specialises in teaching individuals with any level or type of anxiety to drive. If you experience anxiety, fears, or phobias related to driving, you may have asked yourself several questions or created statements in your mind regarding this issue.

  • Learning to drive is a significant step, and it's natural to have concerns, especially when dealing with anxiety. There are driving instructors who specialise in helping anxious drivers. It's never too late to learn to drive, regardless of age or anxiety. To find an understanding instructor, research and seek recommendations, perhaps from those who have had similar experiences. Remember, instructors are professionals trained to handle a variety of situations and personalities. Lessons tailored for anxious drivers are available, and many have found them beneficial. Your concerns are valid, but with the right support, you can overcome your fear and learn to drive. It's important to communicate your needs and concerns with your instructor, as most are willing to adapt their teaching methods. Mistakes are a normal part of the learning process, and a good instructor will guide you through them calmly. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consider seeking additional support, such as anxiety management strategies or professional counseling, which can be very effective. Keep in mind that learning to drive is a process, and it's okay to take it at your own pace.

Those questions and statements have likely been circling in your mind for a long time before you muster the courage or find the need to seek a Driving School that specializes in instructing individuals with anxiety. Alternatively, you may have tucked those distressing anxiety-related questions into a small corner of your mind, while you frantically search for reasons or excuses to avoid confronting that troublesome box.

See... we "get it," we "get you."

The mere thought of taking driving lessons can induce a cold sweat, dry mouth, stomach pain, and an overwhelming desire to cry. It can also cause heart palpitations so intense that it feels as though your heart might burst from your chest.

And then the fear escalates, worrying it might spiral into a full-blown panic attack.

DRIVEable Driving School is here to assist you. Our name, DRIVEable, was selected thoughtfully with our students' needs in mind. Our goal is to help you conquer your anxieties and fears, to empower you—yes, YOU—to be capable of driving confidently. To be ABLE!

All Driving Instructors at DRIVEable Driving school are empathetic, caring, kind and have a high level of understanding for all differences, disorders, difficulties, or disabilities, for example ADHD, ADD,  ASD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Processing Disorders, visual and non-verbal disabilities, and depression. Your symptoms may be anywhere from mild to severe. We know you will be apprehensive  about meeting us for the first time, worried that we will be horrible (we're not, were lovely :-).  We know that you would have overthought not only the first lesson but meeting us. You may suffer with social anxiety, and not want or be in the car with us.

You may be curious about how DRIVEable Driving Instructors can help you overcome your fears and anxieties to ensure you're driving before you reach the age of Francis Morris. (Indeed, that is his actual name.) We also instruct numerous 'mature' students; it's never too late to start, succeed, and earn your license. Moreover, if you've been deterred from driving due to PTSD, illness, an accident, or other reasons, we can help you get back behind the wheel.

Here's how we will do it for you, or how we are currently doing it for you.

We will embody empathy, kindness, and understanding. You will be treated with respect and recognised as an individual. Our aim is to enhance your confidence and alleviate your anxiety. We will instruct you not only in vehicle control but also in managing interactions with other drivers. You will learn to anticipate upcoming events. (More on this in the next blog)

We will look after your wellbeing.

And we're mum's so there are always ''Mum jokes" to lighten the load :-)
